Police on alert for Angels party
There were heated words, but no violence when the Hells Angels partied in Langley for two days in mid-summer.
On July 26 and 27, Langley’s Hells hosted a 25th anniversary party to celebrate the creation of the White Rock, Nanaimo, and Vancouver chapters of the gang.
Police kept a close eye on the bikers, but there were no big clashes or arrests.
The biggest confrontation appeared to be when a police officer climbed on the hood of a gang member’s pickup to remove a B.C. vehicle inspection sticker. A crowd of bikers yelled at the police officers, but it all ended with cell phone calls to lawyers.
An estimated 300 to 500 bikers and hangers-on came from across Canada for the two-day party, and about 130 additional police officers, some from as far as Ontario, attended to keep an eye on them.
Police barricaded access to 61st Avenue between 216th and 224th Streets to control access to the party, something which irked one resident.
Roger Pinette said police were scaring off customers from his garden supply business across the street.
Police raised questions about why Pinette’s grown son Jeremy spent the weekend of the party acting as a designated driver for the Hells Angels members at the party.
