AR- Mandatory Helmet Bill SB 29
The Legislature will return Monday with a Senate panel scheduled to consider legislation aimed at encouraging motorcyclists to wear helmets while on the road. The Senate Transportation, Technology and Legislative Affairs Committee will consider a bill by Sen. Kim Hendren that would require anyone operating a motorcycle to either wear a helmet or to have at least $10,000 in health insurance coverage.
Hendren’s proposal will likely face the same opposition other restrictions have faced since the state repealed its motorcycle helmet law in 1997. Hendren, R-Gravette, in 2007 proposed requiring helmets for motorcyclists but his bill was rejected by a Senate committee.
SB29 – TO REQUIRE ALL PERSONS WHO OPERATE OR RIDE ON A MOTORCYCLE TO WEAR PROTECTIVE HEADGEAR OR TO CARRY ADEQUATE COVERAGE UNDER A HEALTH INSURANCE PLAN.
