LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — A House committee has voted down a measure that would require motorcyclists younger than 25 to wear helmets.
State law now requires helmets for motorcyclists under 21. Rep. Gene Shelby’s bill would have extended that requirement to those 24 years old and younger.
But opponents argued that it was an unnecessary law that infringes on personal liberties. Shelby and other doctors say the measure would save lives.
The bill failed Tuesday in a voice vote before the House Public Transportation Committee.
