NE- Summer Crackdown on Helmet Violations
A four-month enforcement of the state’s motorcycle helmet law found
relatively few violators this summer. However, the crackdown still
netted plenty of citations.
Between May 27th & September 30th, Omaha police deployed extra officers
on 21 occasions to specifically look for motorcyclists who were not
wearing helmets. Those who wore helmets that do not satisfy or exceed
federal standards had their headgear confiscated.
A total of 1,446 citations were issued
27 No helmet.
46 Wearing unsafe helmets
1,095 Speeding violations
114 Restraint violations
47 No proof of financial responsibility
65 Drug arrests
17 No motorcycle endorsement
35 Misc. violations
Police used a $25,000 grant from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety
to pay for the crackdown.
