Myrtle Beach police release helmet-citation numbers

Myrtle Beach police officers handed out 63 tickets on Saturday during the Helmet Freedom Ride in which motorcyclists protested the city’s new helmet ordinance.

Capt. David Knipes said police gave out 57 tickets for people violating the city’s rule about wearing a helmet and protective eyewear while on a motorcycle or scooter; gave out five written warnings and gave one parking ticket.

Some of the nearly 100 riders who gathered at the Beaver Bar in Murrells Inlet on Saturday morning for the ride into Myrtle Beach said they wanted to get tickets so they could challenge them in court.

The helmet ordinance, which went into effect Saturday, is one of 15 laws and amendments the city council passed last fall after promising complaining residents it would take action to curtail the rallies that draw about 500,000 people to the Grand Strand each May.

Right thing to do by what justification?
The law for mandatory helmets in Myrtle Beach is illegal, prejudicial and unconstitutional. Please explain on how that is the right thing to do. I am certain that you can explain how this law is not pre-empted. I am certain that you can prove beyond reasonable doubt that motorcycle helmets cannot kill you (Ref. atlanto occipital separation/dislocation). I am certain that you can prove with certainty that any helmet is proven to have passed a criteria of safety that is not vague.

Meeting those requirements in your response are all that I ask. Case law to prove all of your claims are necessary since this is a legal and constitutional matter on the state and federal level.

Finally, explain to me how the ‘Color of Law’ does not apply here.

    Thanks in advance.
