Law affecting motorcycles in Tenn. would also apply to bicycles under a bill the Senate passed

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Legislation that would require a law affecting motorcycles in Tennessee to also apply to bicycles has unanimously passed the Senate.

The measure, sponsored by Republican Sen. Jamie Woodson of Knoxville, was approved on Wednesday.

Current law requires motorcycles to stop completely at an intersection before continuing. The measure is necessary because most traffic-control signals utilize a vehicle detection device that is inoperative because of the size of the motorcycle.

Woodson’s proposal would apply to bicycles as well as motorcycles.

The companion bill is scheduled before the House Transportation Committee.
